KML and Shapefiles are file formats that are used to display geographic data in services like Decipher or Google Earth. In essence, it’s data collected about a specific area of land (like place marks, shapes and descriptions), which can then be displayed on a map in an accurate location.

A KMZ file is a zipped (or compressed) KML file, and a SHZ is a zipped/compressed Shapefile.
